Utah's Rudy Gobert has hyperextended left knee, bone bruise

The Utah Jazz's chances against the Los Angeles Clippers appeared to go up in flames when Rudy Gobert suffered a knee injury just seconds into his first playoff game.

The rest of the Clippers failed to make a huge impact within the game with the loss of Utah's centre providing the opportunity for the remaining Jazz starters to step up defensively. Chris Paul tied the game with 13 seconds left.

The Clippers spent Sunday focused on improving their help defense, the very thing that allowed Johnson to score 21 points.

Curry was sidelined for the first three games of that series a year ago before coming off the bench in a playoff game for the first time in his career in Game 4 and scoring 40 points, with an National Basketball Association record 17 in overtime of a 132-125 victory. We've got to forget about previous year whether we won or lost. When you look at our games that have been successful, it was our guards going downhill into the paint on Gobert and creating action. Fatigue was evident down the stretch of Game 1, and the lack of lateral movement Favors displayed is a little worrisome.

Game Two of the best-of-seven series is on Tuesday. Even if they do win, there might be major changes coming.

On Saturday night, Gobert left the game just seconds into his playoff debut.

That's why the Jazz brought him in last summer. It's good for us to go just go in with all the confidence in the world that we've built up this regular season and understand that every round's going to be different, every round's going to be just a dogfight. "I knew Jamal was on me, and thought if I can, I'd try to make them switch", Ingles said.

Hayward ended the game with 19 points, 10 rebounds and three assists followed by George Hill with 16 points, four rebounds and two assists.

What the Jazz showed Saturday is that they - at least compared to their opponents - have a team of individuals who are better at handling adversity.

Despite being at different ends of the contention cycle, these two teams have a lot more in common than you might think at first glance.

For the Jazz, this year was always about more than making the playoffs.

The Clippers' efforts went to waste but the play that knotted up the game may have been the right call at that point. If Gobert can get out onto the court, the Jazz are all of a sudden favorites to win the series, but if he doesn't, their lack of interior defense might prove too much to overcome, despite the early 1-0 series lead. That's good news for Jazz fans, but still problematic for the team's first round matchup with the LA Clippers.
