Tesla to recall 53000 Model S and Model X vehicles

Tesla Recalls 53,000 Model S And Model X Vehicles

The reason for the recall is a fault with the electric parking brakes, which Tesla sourced from a third-party supplier for use in the cars.

USA luxury electric auto maker Tesla plans to install 14 high-speed supercharger stations across the country by the end of this year, according to its global sales head.

According to a report by Electrek, Tesla found out a manufacturing issue in the parking brakes of its cars manufactured from February 2016 to October 2016.

Tesla said repairs can begin immediately and it will have enough parts for all affected vehicles by October.

Tesla calls yesterday's action a "voluntary recall", and stresses that only a small number of the 53,000 vehicles-less than 5 percent, perhaps as low as 2 percent-is likely to suffer from the problem. If the gear breaks, the parking brake could get stuck in place.

Tesla's total production for 2016 was 83,922 vehicles and included both Model S and Model X.

McNeill emphasized the importance of the Korean market, saying although it stands in the 11th spot in the global economic rankings, it is in fifth place in the luxury auto market.

The company stated that they have "determined that only a very small percentage of gears in vehicles built during this period were manufactured improperly".

Elon Musk's innovative auto firm has said the decision was made on a voluntary basis and there was no reports of any accidents or injuries caused by the defect.

"Service capacity will not be an issue", a Tesla spokeswoman reportedly said in an email. Though investors reacted negative to the recall and lawsuit issue, they have settled down to see the stock reversing the trend on Friday's pre-market trading. It enables recharging the Model S 90D -- the first and only Tesla model available in Korea - to 50 percent in about 20 minutes.

In November 2015, Tesla recalled 90,000 Model S cars because of a single report of a seat belt not being properly connected.
