Giants defend Eli Manning amid claim of false memorabilia

Eli Manning

Angry Eli comments on memorabilia fraud lawsuit. Manning spoke at the onset of the Giants' organized team activities which began this week.

"I've never done what I've been accused of doing. I have no reason, nor have I ever had any reason, to do anything of that nature", Manning said.

"It'll all work out, and when it all does, I'll be cleared of this and everybody will see I've done nothing wrong". "However, because this is a pending litigation, I will not be able to answer questions or go into specific details on the matter", Manning said. Steiner said that prior to any conclusive findings, anyone who bought one of the dozen or so game-used Manning items from him over the years could get a complete refund now.

"2 game used helmets and 2 game used jerseys per your contract [with Steiner Sports]".

The Giants were accused in an ongoing 2014 civil-racketeering lawsuit of creating fake game-worn football gear to pass off as the real deal to make money from collectors and fans over the years.

The allegations remained mostly dormant until last week when Kaja Whitehouse and Bruce Golding of the New York Post unearthed a potential "smoking-gun email" within the court documents. My track record with how I've handled myself since I've been here in NY 2004 speaks for itself.

"I sign autographs like a lot of people do", Manning said. "I've tried to do everything with class and be a standup citizen, and that is what I have done and that is being attacked right now".

The two-time Super Bowl victor has a contract with Steiner Sports, a prominent sports memorabilia seller, but Manning said he would have no financial incentive by trying to pass along equipment that wasn't authentic.

"I have talked to Peyton about things going on", he said.
