Man accused of Facebook-video murder found dead after chase

A US man wanted for killing an elderly man in OH and posting a video of the murder on Facebook fatally shot himself after a brief pursuit in neighbouring Pennsylvania, US police have said.

"After a brief pursuit, Stephens shot and killed himself", Pennsylvania State Police said.

Police had been conducting an extensive manhunt across the states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and MI as Stephens was wanted on charges of aggravated murder.

Police Chief Calvin Williams says anyone who thinks they've seen Stephens should call 911.

The manhunt for Stephens had expanded nationwide on April 17.

They made another appeal for help Tuesday, saying that more than 400 tips have come in from as far away as Texas, but they have been unable to narrow the search.

After a brief chase, Stephens stopped his vehicle, Williams said.

"What happened today was senseless", Williams said.

The video of Godwin's murder had remained on Facebook for more than two hours.

WEWS-TV reports that a video Stephens posted to Facebook past year showed him rapidly firing at targets at the range in Willoughby and being warned to stop by an employee. No one reported it, according to Facebook.

He posted video of that shooting on Facebook. WKYC will stream it live in the video above. Before Green's phone died, Stephens told her he was "shooting people" because he was "mad with his girlfriend" of about three years, his mother said.

"He was spotted because of the auto and the license plate matched up with one distributed in media reports", said Reed.

The multistate manhunt for him stretched into a third day Tuesday. "My heart is just broke".

During the same interview, his son Robby Miller said that he wanted the shooter brought to justice and for his family to have closure.

Speaking just a couple of hours before news emerged of his death, U.S. Marshal Peter Elliott said that his auto had no Global Positioning System tracking capabilities.

The shooting marked the latest video clip of a violent crime to turn up on Facebook, raising questions about how the world's biggest social media network moderates content.
