Chinese, US officials exchange views on Korean Peninsula situation

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence visits the border village of Panmunjom which has separated the two Koreas since the Korean War South Korea Monday

The U.S. Navy generally does not reveal the whereabouts of its warships for security reasons.

Officials later said the strike group, including the 97,000-ton carrier and its 60-plus aircraft, the guided-missile destroyers USS Wayne E. Meyer and USS Michael Murphy and the guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain would participate in naval exercises with the Australian navy south of Singapore before heading to Korea.

In recent months it has demonstrated signs that it wants to help the worldwide community force North Korea to back down - in February it banned all coal imports from the country and last week deployed 150,000 troops to the border.

The U.S. has warned North Korea that the country needs to cease its nuclear tests, with President Donald Trump telling dictator Kim Jong-un that he has "got to behave", the Daily Mail reports.

It isn't clear yet whether the storyline about the Carl Vinson was the product of deliberate deception by the Navy, defense officials in Washington or the White House, or whether internal miscommunication within the government might have turned the snowball into the avalanche. "It ensures our - we have the strategic capabilities, and it gives the President options in the region".

A day earlier, Pence traveled to the tense Demilitarized Zone dividing North and South Korea, where he warned North Korea's leaders that after years of testing the US and South Korea with its nuclear ambitions, "the era of strategic patience is over". He suggested plans to deploy a USA missile defense system in South Korea were damaging its relations with China.

China and Russian Federation have launched military intelligence vessels to "chase down" the USA warship Donald Trump dispatched to the North Korean Peninsula, the Japanese government has reportedly revealed. Carl Vinson has deployed to the region several times, starting with a deployment to the Western Pacific in 1983, a year after commissioning.

When forces under North Korean leader Kim il-Sung invaded the south in 1950, the newly formed United Nations, led by the USA, intervened to stop the south falling to Kim's version of nationalistic communism.

Our "very powerful" armada will make its way to the Korean Peninsula eventually, but apparently no one's in any rush.
