Utah's Gobert leaves game after getting hurt on 1st play

Utah center Rudy Gobert sprained his left knee in the series opener against the Los Angeles Clippers on the first play of the game Saturday night.

The good news is Gobert doesn't have anything structurally wrong with his knee.

With Favors playing 32 minutes and contributing 15 points, the Jazz held on to beat the Clippers in Game 1, 97-95, on a buzzer-beater from Joe Johnson. He couldn't put any pressure on the knee and is day-to-day leading up to Tuesday's Game 2.in Los Angeles.

The Jazz held Clippers forward Blake Griffin to six points in the second half, after he scored 20 in the first half. "I just thought they scored easier than I would like", Rivers said.

"I think it was very motivating considering the fact that he's a big part of what we do, especially defensively", Johnson said of the impact of Gobert's injury.

The 35-year-old has averaged single digits in scoring with the Jazz for the first time since the 2002-03 season, but he was sprightly with 21 points off the bench on nine-for-14 shooting, including the latest game victor of his 16-year career.

"We felt and knew that a lot of people probably were counting us out when he went down, but man, we stuck together", Johnson said.

The Clippers forgot about Johnson, the most prolific game-winning scorer in the last decade. It will be tough to overcome over a seven-game series. Games 3 and 4 will be at Utah on Friday and April 23.

Gobert attempted to get back to his feet several times before being helped into the locker room by team mates.

"We've got to be better", Paul said.
