Once again President Donald Trump has fixed his mouth to accuse someone else in the Obama administration of committing a crime.
"I think there is potential for criminal liability, yes", King says.
"I think it's going to be the biggest story", Trump told the Times.
He continued,"It's such an important story for our country and the world".
Contrary to the Times' opinion, in a news story no less, that Trump was seeking to change the subject, it is clear that there is a real story here.
"And we have seen no evidence. that there was partisan political notice behind this and we can't say that unless there's actual evidence to back that up". Rice denied that allegation. "I leaked nothing to nobody", she said.
A spokesperson for Rice later called the claim "ludicrous".
Obama NSA advisor Susan Rice's alleged unmasking of intelligence intercepts of some of President-elect Trump's transition staff appears to be a violation of policy and law, says at least one member of the House Intelligence Committee. "It's highly, highly unusual for consumers of intelligence to go to the collecting agencies and ask them to unmask the identities". Names of Americans swept up incidentally in the collection of intelligence are normally masked, or kept redacted, in intelligence briefings. Trump told reporters the attack "crossed a lot of lines" for him but did not give any clues about a possible USA response.
Trump's accusation, given during an interview with the New York Times, elevates a newly launched conspiracy theory that Rice was instrumental in an Obama administration effort to spy on the Trump campaign for political purposes.
Trump was asked if he believes Rice engaged in criminal activity.
According to a USA official, Mr. Trump national security aides discovered that Rice requested the identities of Trump campaign advisers. Standing behind the president and king are Queen Rania of Jordan, left, and First Lady Melania Trump.
Rice claimed during an interview with MSNBC earlier this week unmasking was done in order to protect individual American citizens, not to use their information for political purposes.
Rice is also under fire for comments she made last month in an interview with "PBS NewsHour" in which she said "I know nothing about this", when asked about claims from Rep. Devin Nunes, R-California, that Trump officials were caught up in surveillance and that their identities were disclosed. Former CIA Acting Director John McLaughlin also defended Rice, saying, "she was doing her job". The committee's chairman, Sen.
The reports were likely based on routine surveillance of foreign officials.
