Su boasts three-shot lead in Hawaii

Cristie Kerr wins Hawaii by three strokes after closing with 6-under 66

Cristie Kerr and Alena Sharp were tied for second. Jang made her first bogey and double bogey of the tournament on the front nine and shot even-par 72 for the round. The American backed up her third round 62 with a final round 66 to claim a three shot victory.

She shot 7-under 65 in the third round and had a 17-under 199 total at Ko Olina Golf Club.

She made six more birdie putts the final round, taking the lead on the 14th hole. "Yeah, everybody says being in the zone".

Ko said she is unfazed by talk around her ranking - she acknowledges the talent on course but just wants to continue to improve her own game. Ariya Jutanugarn leads the LPGA Tour with 126 birdies this year.

The only other local golfer in the field, Waiakea graduate Britney Yada will start her rookie season debut at 11:55am from the tenth tee as well. She was two-under 142 and tied-40th. With the win, Kerr moves into the top 10 in the Race to the CME Globe, and, is within six points of qualifying for the LPGA Hall of Fame.

Sharp admits "It's hard to win out here", but has never wanted to stop trying.

"Asked to recall her memories of last year's win, Lee said she had managed to play without over-thinking". "I just love the competition. But I played solid for two days and still left some out there, so it's some good golf".

Canada's Alena Sharp, South Korea's Lee Mi-Hyang and Stacy Lewis of the USA are one shot back of the co-leaders at eight-under 136. Having struggled with the putter earlier in the year, Ko required a mere 22 putts in the final round, being especially potent on the back nine. They always have been. "It's kind of a bonus".

Ko has shot a superb eight-under 64 to sit in second place near the conclusion of the tournament.

Third-ranked Ariya Jutanugarn (69) and Stacy Lewis (6) were 14 under.

Kerr's victory was her first on the LPGA Tour since the final event in 2015 and her 19th overall. When the wind stopped, thunder, lightning and rain followed.

Those near the top of the leader board will come at Thursday's second round from different directions.

Kerr vaulted into the lead for good with three straight birdies on the back nine, beginning at No. 13 to get to 20-under. She needed just 25 putts. "I went swimming with the turtles on Friday afternoon and I inadvertently touched one", she added. "But I know I'm so far away from home and I travel so long to play this tournament, so I try to tell myself just to suck it up and have a good time and play a good round today".

Lee, 20, is defending the Lotte Championship that she won past year in Hawaii. "So experience definitely helps".

The last time a sponsor invite won on the LPGA it was Ko at the 2013 CN Canadian Women's Open.

The cut will be determined after the completion of the round Friday morning. Hawaii's Michelle Wie, who won here in 2014, is tied for 60th at 1 under.
